So - "Why Things Matter"? Julian Bleecker gives us an overview of the kind of network that things may create in the near future and partly even today. He first defines three components:

✦ Blogjects track and trace where they are and where they've been;
✦ Blogjects have self-contained (embedded) histories of their encounters and
experiences
✦ Blogjects always have some form of agency - they can foment action and
participate; they have an assertive voice within the social web

What is a Blogject? It is an object that blogs. Close to what I do right now. A great example is a "flock of pigeons that are equipped with some telematics
to communicate on the Internet wirelessly, a GPS device for tracing where its
been flying, and an environmental sensor that records the levels of toxins and pollutants in the air through which they fly."

This way they know where they are, keep a record of their path and communicate by delivering information about pollution with humans.

I would'nt call it a manifesto but a great insight into an upcoming world where things start to communicate with each other and enhances the world or space we live in. No intelligence or knowledge but aggregated information about the ever more complex world we live in.

Here's the paper as pdf
