RFID Implantees Subculture

Filed in archive Cool by on March 09, 2006

Funny things happen in this world. For example people who implant a RFID chip for different reason. Anita gives us an overview of these subcultures.

One example I knew before are people in Barcelona who use it as an entry ticket, to pay their drinks and to be the coolest in town (maybe in Europe).

I love Anita's comment: Top that for cocktail party conversation!
What's probably true - but it is worth it?

Anyway, her entry is about a book called RFID Toys. The title "RFID Toys" says a lot about the motivation behind getting yourself implanted with a chip -- it is partly about entertainment.
Just another kind of "social interface".

Interesting prediction from the comments: "RFID technology will satisfy business needs until a more pervasive computing model can been seen. Then wireless and "smart chips" will take over."

PS: today I'am at the CeBIT, Hannover, Germany
